Despite our differences in Nigeria, one thing that we can all agree on is how we don't joke with our food here.  We can all disagree on the economy, but once there's food on the table, everything just fades. Life is so much sweeter!

Scouring the variety of Nigerian cuisine, we have put together a list of 5 of our favourite Nigerian food combinations you'll be sure to love. In no particular order, we have:

Beans and Dodo

Correct beans and dodo.

This combination right here has coloured many childhoods and won the hearts of many Nigerians -and with good reason too. Like who can resist the steaming combination of soft beans with just enough porridge, and soft fried plantain?

There are even rumours that this combination may have been the reason Esau sold his birthright. While we can neither affirm or deny these statements, it is easy to see how possible it might have been.

We are yet to find that man who can stand before this combination and say "no".

Boiled Yam and Fried Eggs

Delicious yam and fried eggs

The particular kind of joy that this meal brings is second to none! Imagine boiled yam slices sitting pretty on a plate of eggs fried with rich, red tomatoes, pepper and onions.

It's okay, drooling is allowed.

Whether with a fork or your highly efficient fingers, we know the pleasure that comes from devouring a plate of boiled yam slices and fried eggs, sighing contentedly as you draw the curtain with chiiiiled water or juice, with the fan blowing the right amount of breeze your way.

Did someone just say "if I perish, I perish?"

Starch and Banga Soup

Starch and private school banga soup.

In all our years of tasting delicacies and interviewing people on their take on this combo, we have never encountered anyone with anything bad to say about starch and banga soup.

It can do no wrong!

A fitting "mic drop" to this already amazing combo is serving the steaming soup in those small earthen bowls. There just has to be something about these earthen bowls that just make everything more delicious, no jokes. It's just science!

Pounded Yam and Egusi Soup

Pounded yam and egusi soup wey dey burst brain.

Nothing comes quite close to the smooth, delicious texture and taste of well pounded yam. When combined with egusi soup that tells the tales of the smoky, delicious aromas and tastes of obstacles within it, guy, you sef go know!

Soup dey pass soup, and egusi soup is a strong defender of its place on this list and in our hearts.

If you're still wondering why it's on the list, imagine egusi soup that went to private school! I'm talking egusi with fish, beef, well-cooked stock fish and a dash of diced ponmo, topped off with locust beans and some pampered pumpkin leaves, all cooked to perfection!

E dey enter your eye, abi?

Without so much as an advertisement on television, every one of these combinations have caressed the hearts -and stomachs- of Nigerians far and wide.

The jury is still out on whether you agree with our choices, so let us know.

Which one was your favourite?

Which one did we miss?
