NIGERIA SENATE PASSES NORTH CENTRAL DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION (NCDC) BILL.

On Thursday, July 4, the Nigerian Senate passed the North Central Development Commission (NCDC) bill, marking a significant step towards addressing the developmental needs of the North Central region.

The bill's passage followed the presentation of a report by the Senate Committee on Special Duties, chaired by Senator Kaka Shehu. Sponsored by Senator Abba Moro, representing the Benue South Senatorial District, the bill received strong bipartisan support, with all senators from the North Central region co-sponsoring it.

Originally introduced in the Senate on October 5, 2023, the bill progressed to its second reading on February 21, 2024. Senator Moro expressed his gratitude for the widespread support and emphasized the pressing need for the commission to tackle the region’s developmental challenges.

The NCDC bill aims to replicate the successes of similar regional development commissions in combating poverty, bridging infrastructure gaps, and addressing social issues.

With the Senate's approval, the bill now moves to the House of Representatives for concurrence and will require presidential assent to become law.
